Hi There!
I'm Michelle Holbrook, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, which means I approach therapy from a wholistic and systemic perspective. I graduated from Kentucky State University with a BA in Psychology in 2009 and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary with my Masters in 2012. I am a single mom of 2 amazing daughters that have taught me more about empathy for myself and others than I ever expected. While at Seminary, I learned that therapy is a sacred space, whatever the spiritual identity is of the client; to honor and respect the spirit and spirituality brought into session by the client; the importance of valuing and honoring the clients' life and perspective, no matter how different it may be from my own. It is not my place to pretend I know the clients' lives better than they do and it is not my job to "change their mind". I have some insights, education, and "tools" in my "toolbox" that can, hopefully, help my client's find their own way through life. I approach time with my clients from an empathetic and compassionate stance, working together to find what works for them.
I have worked with families, in their homes, with CPS cases to help close their cases with the Family Preservation Program. I have also provided assessments for OLOP at the hospitals while also providing in-home therapy with Transformations, LLC. In 2017 I began working at Kilgore Samaritan Counseling Center seeing clients in office as well as at the Women's Healing Place. At THP, I worked with a colleague and created a twice a week therapy group about building a positive body image as well as coping skills using DBT. In 2021, I started working at UofL's Health Science Campus working with students in the Health Science programs. Most recently I have been seeing clients virtually with Evolved Counseling before deciding to take the plunge into my own private practice. I am also the Clinical Director of Unlimited Love, a recovery house for women with their children.
I have extensive training and experience working with a diverse population of clients with various mental health concerns. I utilize a variety of therapeutic interventions with my clients, based on their wants, needs, and issues.
